Orcas Island (3 sub-boards) Orcas Island is the largest of the San Juan Islands, which are located off the northern coast of Washington State. Approximately an hour and twenty minutes from the mainland city of Anacortes by ferry, Orcas is home to an eclectic community of artisans and small cottage businesses. Its diverse landscape of mountains, wooded countryside and spectacular vistas make it a popular destination for both day trips and extended vacations.
San Juan Island (5 sub-boards) The second-largest member of the San Juan archipelago, a string of islands located at the northwest tip of Washington State. San Juan Island is well known for its sea kayaking and whale watching opportunities. Some 80 Orca whales make their home in the surrounding waters during the spring and summer, and many can be seen from the shore at “Whale Watch Park” on the west side of the island.
Lopez Island (1 sub-board) The third largest of the San Juan Islands. A predominately rural island of rolling hills and flat pastureland, Lopez Island is a great place for bicyclists and for travelers seeking a quiet retreat from the bustle of the mainland. Visitors can immerse themselves in the many activities along the seashore, or take time to enjoy the bakeries, shops and galleries that dot the island. A farmer’s market is held twice a week during the summer. Lopez Island Vineyards, the San Juan’s only winery, sells organically-produced wines and is open for scheduled wine tastings.

Shaw Island (1 sub-board) The smallest of the four San Juan Islands that are serviced by ferries from Anacortes, Washington. Nestled between the three other islands, Orcas, San Juan and Lopez, Shaw remains principally undeveloped, with almost no visitor amenities to speak of. Less than 200 people reside on the island, comfortable in their resolve to keep Shaw pristine and quiet.
The San Juans More than 170 islands comprise the San Juan archipelago, which lies off mainland Washington at the juncture of the straits of Georgia and Juan de Fuca, and is sheltered from the Pacific Ocean by the Olympic Peninsula and Vancouver Island. Eighty-three islands are protected as part of the San Juan Wildlife Refuge, home to seabirds, seals and sea lions. About 90 Orca whales are year round residents of the area. The four islands served by the Washington State Ferry System - Lopez, Orcas, San Juan, and Shaw - are the usual destinations for, weekend getaways and extended stay vacations. To reach any of the other islands, about 40 of which are inhabited, you will need to arrange your own transportation.

Anacortes Washington state's largest fishing fleet berths here. Anacortes is an appealing destination in itself as well as a good overnight stopover if you are planning on catching an early morning ferry to the San Juan Islands.

Seattle surrounded by water and mountains, and the city's attraction lies in the stunning views seen from the many vantage points throughout it's several neighborhoods. The awesome height of Mount Rainier is truly appreciated when seen from within the city, as it puts skyscrapers to shame from 200 miles away. These are views which indicate Seattle's easy access to outdoor recreational activities throughout the year. Seattle is one of the three "gateway" cities to the Pacific Northwest (the others being Vancouver in British Columbia and Portland in Oregon). It is a commercial, cultural and transportation hub for the region (although don't expect the level of energy of big cities like Chicago and San Francisco).

Washington State Washington State offers a cornucopia of destinations as varied as its topography to fit the taste of almost any traveler.
Victoria, BC one of those unique cities seemingly destined to be a haven for travelers. Breathtakingly picturesque, and imbued with a flavor and style born of its British heritage, the city sits on the southeast tip of 300-mile long Vancouver Island just off the west coast of Canada facing the Juan de Fuca Strait and it's neighbor to the south, the United States.

British Columbia, Canada Canada’s most westerly province and some say, the country’s most captivating. Bounded on its western shores by the Pacific Ocean and on the east by the Rocky Mountains, it has everything a recreational traveler could want.
